De tuinbouw kan veel leren van de ruimtevaart en omgekeerd. Dat is het thema van een reeks van zeven colleges, die bioloog en ruimtevaartonderzoeker Angelo Vermeulen geeft in het World Horti Center. De colleges sluiten aan bij het recent verschenen boek ’Voorwaarts Mars’, een publicatie van LTO Glaskracht. Vermeulen is verbonden aan TU Delft, en werkt actief samen met ESA en NASA. Hij was gezagvoerder op de eerste Mars-simulatie van NASA op Hawaï.
„Met name recirculatie is belangrijk in de ruimte”, vertelt Vermeulen deze week in een interview met Vakblad voor de Bloemisterij. „Op een basis op Mars is het niet alleen nodig om water voor 100% te recirculeren, maar ook lucht en voedingsstoffen. De afstand is namelijk te groot om een Marsbasis te bevoorraden.” Een circulaire glastuinbouw in de toekomst is ook een belangrijk thema voor LTO Glaskracht.
Op vrijdag 19 januari vindt het eerste college plaats, die in het teken staat van Energie. Ieder college heeft een eigen thema en wordt in het Engels gegeven. De colleges zijn voor iedereen toegankelijk en afzonderlijk te volgen. Naast Vermeulen licht per college een gastspreker zijn of haar visie toe. Verder zijn de colleges interactief, zodat iedereen zijn ideeën kan delen.
College 1 (19/01/18): Energy Management.
College 2 (26/01/18): Water Management.
College 3 (09/02/18): Lighting and Climate Control.
College 4 (16/02/18): Soil and substrate. Plant health and biological pest control.
College 5 (23/02/18): Alternative Material and Energy Flows.
College 6 (02/03/18): The Impact of Digitization.
College 7 (07/03/18): Urban and Vertical Farming.
