Men zegt altijd dat je niet over je graf heen moet regeren. Eens! Het is niet gepast om als ex-directielid van veiling Aalsmeer, Westland, Holland, ex-commissaris veiling Eelde, Rijnsburg en ex-voorzitter van VGB en UnionFleurs me te bemoeien met de huidige gang van zaken. Op verzoek doe ik dit toch voor een keer.
Royal FloraHolland was met Flowering the World op een heilloze weg. Handelaren en telers fronsten de wenkbrauwen. Op initiatief van VGB werd het Santpoortberaad ingericht. Telers en handelaren gingen in dialoog. De overtuiging was dat beide elkaar nodig hebben. Het idee ontstond van een nieuwe gezamenlijke innovatieve coöperatie. Dit idee strandde en Royal FloraHolland scheepte de handel af met een klantenraad. De veiling vervolgde hooghartig haar koers.
Na wisseling op directie- en bestuursniveau zette de veiling een nieuwe koers uit. Terug naar een open marktplaats, passend in het digitale tijdperk, met betekenisvolle diensten voor de gebruikers. Operationeel knapte er veel op bij Royal FloraHolland. Tegelijkertijd maakte ze een begin met de uitvoering van de strategie. Een transitie vanuit iets dat 100 jaar bestaat naar een digitale, internationale open marktplaats is echter uiterst complex.
Pas op de plaats?
De verscheidenheid aan telers en klanten is de kracht van de sierteelt. Er zijn al veel bestaande directe, digitale relaties tussen producenten en afnemers. Royal FloraHolland wenst landelijk veilen, nieuwe veilmomenten en veilwijzen en milieucertificering. Ze wil dit koppelen aan bestel-, bezorg- en betaalsystemen. Dit in een sterk gefragmenteerde en gediversifieerde omgeving. Ga er maar aan staan!
Amazon, bol.com, Booking.com, Alibaba kunnen het toch ook? Maar zij begonnen als startup en hoefden niet een 100-jarige organisatie om te bouwen. Ik hoop stilletjes dat het Santpoortberaad wordt opgestart. Dat kan bijdragen aan het broodnodige draagvlak en inbreng van praktische kennis van innovatieve telers en handelaren.
Moet Royal FloraHolland pas op de plaats maken? Niet te lang, lijkt mij. Ze moet wel kritisch kijken of ze niet te veel hooi op de vork nam. Transitieprocessen lopen nooit lineair. Momenten van reflectie en bijsturen zijn nodig en dan verder. Samen verder is mijn advies, met draagvlak vanuit de handel. De transitie mag niet stranden anders is het einde oefening Royal FloraHolland.

Het lijkt me goed om vanuit de basis, en die is er al 100 jaar,als RFH af te vragen voor wie jullie er zijn en waar jullie de potentie zien om efficiënt en doelgericht de leden van RFH te laten groeien, door fusies en de retail zijn er grote afnemers ontstaan die veel handel weg trekken van de klok. Neelie Smit Kroes zou zich er eens mee moeten bemoeien, prijs afspraken en de hande lvoor de klok onder druk zetten voor de kleinere koper. Wat hebben we zien gebeuren met de prijzen als de grote jongens het even niet meer durven of kunnen vooraf te bestellen en de kweker niet uit kunnen knijpen? Astronomische prijzen, dit zet jullie wellicht aan het denken, de cijfers en de computers kunnen veel, maar waar is de emotie en de passie voor het vak gebleven, 100 jaar naar de klote geholpen door de paniek van RFH ……
