Five new nursery products have received a medal at GrootGroenPlus 2020, the international nursery stock trade fair in Zundert, the Netherlands.
The judges of the Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society (KVBC) announced the winners on Wednesday 30 September, the first day of the digital edition which replaces the physical trade show due to corona.
One new variety has been awarded with a silver medal: Carpinus betulus ’Minoor1’ (Minor Globe), submitted by Van Vliet New Plants and discovered by Dutch grower Karel Roelands. This new hornbeam grows naturally spherical and much wider a than other compact Carpinus betulus varieties. The leaves of Minor Globe have a dark green colour.
Four new varieties have received a bronze medal. Two new conifers from Dutch nursery Kools: Cryptomeria japonica ’Kyara Gold’ and Metasequoia glyptostroboides ’WAH 08AG’ (Amber Glow). Also Leucothoe ’RANT01’ (Firestar) has won a bronze medal, licensed by Van Vliet New Plants and also on the market in France, Canada and Japan. And a new variety from Dutch Skimmia nursery Bolwijn has received a bronze medal: Skimmia japonica ’Bolwi173’ (Gold Series Miracle).
