Swiss flower family takes over Dutch fruit plant specialist

Dutch nursery Vergeldt & Bouten Boomkwekers has been taken over by Häberli Fruchtpflanzen AG, part of the Swiss ’flower family’ Rutishauser.

The company takeover was confirmed on Tuesday, and the staff of both companies in the Netherlands and Switserland were informed about it on Wednesday 26 August. The takeover is with retroactive effect from 1 January 2020. Vergeldt & Bouten Boomkwekers is now an independent subsidiary of Häberli, which produces a wide range of fruit plants in Switzerland for mainly garden centres and DIY stores in Switzerland and the EU.

With the acquisition, ’Die Blumenfamilie Rutishauser’, ’The Flower Family’ as the family business profiles itself for its production of tulips and ornamental pot plants, further expands its activities in the range and production of fruit plants. Vergeldt & Bouten is also specialized in fruit plants, the Dutch nursery sells them in almost all EU countries and Switzerland.

Vergeldt & Bouten Boomkwekers bv will continue to be run by the founders, two brothers-in-law Carl Vergeldt (54) and Twan Bouten (56). With the takeover by the Swiss company, the continuation of the company has been organized at an early stage.
