The Danish rose breeder Rosa Eskelund received The Golden Rose from the World Federation of Rose Societies. Rosa Eskelund received this honour for her excellent breeding of the rose ‘Friendship Forever’ to mark the 50th anniversary of WFRS, which was celebrated in Copenhagen in June.
Even though you live in a small village in the countryside one can still put one’s fingerprint on the world map of roses. Rosa Eskelund has done this many times throughout the years with award winning roses all over the world. In connection with the 18th World Federation of Rose Societies Convention in Copenhagen the internationally acknowledged rose breeder could add yet another distinction to her collection, when she was granted The Golden Rose from the WFRS.
Dr. Tommy Cairns, former President for the WFRS presented the award to Rosa Eskelund with these words: The “Golden Rose Award” honors and recognizes Rosa Eskelund of Forever Roses for her volunteer spirit and generosity in making available a rose variety to WFRS bearing a name chosen by WFRS, ‘Friendship Forever’, to mark the 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee in Copenhagen. Rosa is a true rose champion. We are fortunate to have a super star like Rosa on our side. This “Golden Rose Award” will serve as a constant reminder to Rosa of the many roles she played in the highly successful 18th World Rose Convention. She is a very special person!
Rose breeder Rosa Eskelund received the award in front of 750 delegates from around the world who participated in the 18th World Federation of Rose Societies Convention in Copenhagen. Rosa Eskelund was very honoured to receive the award: „I am extremely happy to receive the “Golden Rose Award”. It is a great honour for me and I am very grateful for this acknowledgement of my work as a rose breeder.”

About The World Federation of Rose Societies
The World Federation of Rose Societies is a federation of the national rose societies of 40 countries, representing rose lovers around the world. The World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) was founded in 1968 in London by representatives from the rose societies of Australia, Belgium, Israel, New Zealand, Romania, South Africa, Great Britain and the United States of America. Its stated purpose was to hold international rose conferences and act as a clearing house for rose research.
To date there have been 18 World Rose Conferences, usually held at three year intervals. The latest conference was held June 28 – July 4, 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The WFRS gives awards to outstanding roses and to stars of the rose world. WFRS also honor outstanding rose gardens and rose books.
