Plant sales at UK garden centres has almost doubled in the last few weeks, compared to the same period last year.
According to the Garden Centre Association, UK garden centres sold 91% more garden plants in March than in March 2018. Other garden products also sold better, such as 59% more garden furniture and 55% more barbecues.
To UK media several garden centres are reporting a very good spring sale. This is thanks to good gardening weather combined with early nature and the timing of the Easter weekend – three weeks later than last year.
UK garden centre chains like Wyevale and Hillier achieved ’record sales, the best Easter sales ever’, they reported to Horticulture Week. Especially Rhododendron and Hydrangea sold well because they bloom earlier than usual. But Photinia and Buxus, for example, also sold well.
