Turkey has a large horticulture area of more than 60,000 ha. Much of the production is for the domestic market. The country has good climatic conditions and also offers opportunities for foreign companies. Queen Turkey is one of these companies.
‘We do not regret our decision to come to Turkey. Everything that we anticipated has come true: the logistics, the climate and the local market are good.’ Lars Korup, COO of Queen Turkey shared his vision of horticultural entrepreneurship in Turkey during a broadcast of Jungle Talks on Paprika Radio. Queen, owned by the Danish Jepsen family, started a joint venture in Turkey with its Turkish partner Agrico ten years ago.
Most suitable
Queen did a lot of global research to find the most suitable place to produce cuttings for their kalanchoes. After visits to Africa and Asia, Turkey turned out to be the most suitable location, however, partly because of its large internal market of 85 million people. In addition, its situation allows for transportation of the cuttings to Europe by truck. (..)
