FloraHolland’s turnover increased to €4,6 billion

The turnover that members generated through FloraHolland is expected to be higher this year than last year. The numbers for the auction clock as well as for direct sales are higher than in 2015. Further growth is expected for 2017.

The auction clock volume went down by 1.5%. But better prices (+2.7%) meant that the total auction clock turnover up until week 48 increased by 1.2%. In the same period, intermediary services went up by 8.3%. Both the volume (3.6%) and price (4.6%) in this segment until week 48 were higher than in 2015.

Poor weather conditions in Africa led to lower supplies from this continent, which drove up the prices, explained CEO Lucas Vos at the GMM. According to him, prices have generally been good. It was noted that last June, a few growers experienced severe damage by hailstorms and for a while, unrest in Ethiopia affected some of the auction members in that country. Also, seven auction members’ roses were attacked by ralstonia.

It is expected that the total turnover will reach 4.629 billion this year. That would be an increase of 3.6%. Intermediary services account for €2.487 billion, the auction clock for the remaining €2.142 billion. The auction made a €20 million profit.

For next year, FloraHolland forecasts a further turnover growth, reaching a total of €4,8 billion. Vos did point out however, that the world is facing quite a few uncertainties at the moment. “Trump for example, is predictable in his unpredictability. But what’s for sure is that his politics will have an impact. Italy has just had an important referendum. Germany and France are preparing for elections. There’s a fair bit of uncertainty, worldwide. Exchange rates play an important role in our industry and all these developments influence those.”
