In the EU Plant Health Regulation, which came into force on 14 December, some harmful pests and diseases have been given a different quarantine status.
In the new regulation, harmful regulated organisms are classified differently than in the old legislation. The Q-organisms category (Quarantine) remains.
In addition, there are two new categories: Priority organisms (Q-organisms for which additional requirements will apply) and Regulated Non-Quarantine Pests (RNQP; organisms that already exist in the EU).
Last October the European Commission has published a list of the 20 most important quarantine pests that are threatening the EU territory, including Xylella fastidiosa.
The EU Plant Health Regulation is now into force, which means nursery products need the new EU plant passport in the supply chain. The import ban on high-risk crops will also apply. Read an in-depth article about the new EU rules in the newest Floribusiness magazine.
