The English market is Greet Foncke’s specialty. The co-manager of Gimall Plants in Belgium experiences that the English market has been very interesting since Brexit. ”We had to hire extra staff to manage the customs paperwork and an IT specialist to develop new software.”
How’s your year been so far?
”The plant and flower export sector is thriving. The demand for plants and flowers has continued to be high since the pandemic.”
What’s the structure of your company like?
”My sister and I took over the business from our father. Our husbands are in the company as well. Everyone has their own speciality. Mine, for example, is the English market.”
That must have been interesting since Brexit?
”Yes, you could say that. We had to hire extra staff to manage the customs paperwork and an IT specialist to develop new software. We ship a full lorry to England every day and we now have an inspector of the The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain come to our premises to do inspections for two hours each day. And there are certain products that we can’t export to England anymore.” (..)
