Where many small growers in Flanders have closed their farms in recent years, brothers Erik and Edwin de Pauw expanded their parents’ company with two nearby growing sites. The spatial dispersion of the company requires a lot of organisation. The fact that they cultivate spring, autumn and winter products does not make the puzzle any easier.
In mid-September, dozens of cars were parked in front of the company Veetplant in Willebroek in Belgium. A specialist in bedding plants and flowering plants, the company had opened its doors to the general public. Together with 46 other agricultural and horticultural companies, it was taking part in Agriculture Day, organised by the Belgian Farmers’ Union (Boerenbond).
‘We wanted to change that with this day, but people from elsewhere are also welcome, of course,’ says Erik de Pauw. (..)
