De Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (NVWA) heeft de vondst bekendgemaakt van de voor glastuinbouw gevaarlijke bacterie Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum in oppervlaktewater.
Het is de eerste keer dat deze stam van de schadelijke bacterie is aangetroffen in oppervlaktewater. Deze gedijt niet in gebieden met koude winters. De monsters zijn genomen in augustus 2020 en worden herhaald deze zomer als de watertemperatuur weer hoog is. Na de koude wintermaand februari is de vraag of de bacterie overleeft in Nederland. Dat blijkt uit een zogenoemd pestreport, een notificatie van de NVWA aan Europese instanties.
Verwelkingsziekte
Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum staat op de quarantainelijst en leidt tot grote schade in de tuinbouw en landbouw. Voor rozen en tomaten is de veroorzaker van verwelkingsziekte potentieel zeer gevaarlijk. In 2015 leidde een uitbraak in rozen tot een miljoenenschade. Deze stam is ook getest op tomaten en bleek ook schadelijk. R. pseudosolanacearum heeft een zeer brede waardplantenreeks. Hij was eerder aangeduid als R. solanacearum race 1.
Bodemgebonden bacterie
De andere stam van de bacterie Ralstonia, de R.solanacearum leidde eerder tot schade in onder meer aubergineteelt en is ook een bodemgebonden bacterie. Universiteit Utrecht heeft recent voor deze stam een succesvolle bestrijding ontwikkeld met met behulp van speciaal ontworpen mixen van microben. Een goed ontworpen mengsel van bacteriën kon Ralstonia solanacearum in de natuurlijke bodem tot 100 keer onderdrukken.
De recente vondsten van de stam R. pseudosolanacearum door de NVWA zijn gedaan in Utrecht en Overijssel. Binnen een straal van 5 kilometer staan geen kassen.
