EFSA has launched a website highlighting the work to protect EU trees and plants against harmful pests and diseases.
The European Food Safety Authority set up the new site for two reasons. To mark 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health, and because 2020 is the first year for the new EU Plant Health Regulation.
According to the EFSA, all EU Member States must be prepared to meet the increasing threat posed by plant pests and diseases. The new site is giving the latest information on measures. Including the 20 priority pests that the European Commission has identified (like Xylella, photo below), and the import ban of high-risk plants from outside the EU.
