Dutch exporters have ‘substantial sums’ outstanding in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. It is questionable whether they will ever get their money, given that the economies of these importing countries have been substantially hit by the war in Ukraine. In addition, not all of the outstanding amounts are insured.
The war in Ukraine has led to a standstill in trade with Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. While Ukrainians have other things on their minds than buying flowers, Russians and Belarusians can no longer transfer money to their suppliers in the Netherlands since both countries have been cut off from Swift, the system for international payments.
