Visitors of the virtual RHS Chelsea Flower Show have choosen Viburnum Kilimandjaro Sunrise as best Chelsea plant of the last 10 years
Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum Kilimandjaro Sunrise (’Jww5’) was bred by nurseryman Jan-Willem Wezelenburg in the Netherlands. The Japanese snowball was submitted to the Chelsea Flower Show in 2015 by Burncoose Nurseries and won the award Plant of the Year. Thanks to its white flowers featuring a pink blush, who stand out against dark green foliage and appear all the way up the plant. According to the Royal Horticultural Society, its compact habit is ideal for containers or hedging.
Because of UK corona measures the Chelsea Flower Show was held on the internet. And because the competition Plant of the Year has its tenth anniversary, visitors could choose their Plant of the Decade.
RHS president Sir Nicholas Bacon also has decided his Plant of the Decade: Streptocarpus ’Harlequin Blue’ bred by Lynne Dibley and Plant of the Year in 2010. The public has also chosen the RHS Chelsea Garden Product of the Year: Wilstone’s Potting Table.
