‘The entire floriculture chain feels the pain’

The energy crisis in the Netherlands is far from over. Dutch citizens are somewhat safe for the coming months due to the price cap on gas and electricity set by the government. However, the support measures for SMEs are not helping growers and other parties in ornamentals in any way.

Some growers in the Netherlands are taking advantage of the high gas prices by cashing in their contracts for a lot of money. With fewer growers active this winter, other growers with fixed gas contracts may be getting high prices for their plants or flowers. Most growers, however, have been hit hard.

Growers without fixed gas contracts are closing their doors or skipping one or two rounds of cultivation this winter if possible. Others no longer light their greenhouses and/or or heat a little less during the winter months, accepting the consequences for the quality of their plants and flowers. (..)
