Ten Kate flowers & decorations heeft vanaf eind juni het recht tot het voeren van het Koninklijk Wapen met de toevoeging ‘Bij Koninklijke Beschikking Hofleverancier’. In het bijzijn van een select gezelschap, onder wie Andries Heidema, de commissaris van de koning van Overijssel, hebben eigenaren Tom en Suzan Hutten de onderscheiding in ontvangst mogen nemen. En alle Deventenaren mochten meegenieten van het feestje.
Het predicaat Hofleverancier wordt toegekend aan kleine en middelgrote ondernemingen die een vooraanstaande plaats innemen in hun regio en daarnaast 100, 125 (of een veelvoud van 25) jaar bestaan. De bestuurders van het bedrijf moeten van onbesproken gedrag zijn evenals de onderneming zelf. Ook moet de ontstaansgeschiedenis van het bedrijf duidelijk zijn. Afgelopen september bestond ten Kate flowers & decorations 125 jaar. Tom Hutten ziet de erkenning als een mooie bekroning op 125 jaar ten Kate Semperflorens (ten Kate altijd bloeiend), maar ook als een soort afscheid. Als COVID-19 geen roet in het eten had gegooid waren Tom en zijn vrouw Suzan in september teruggetreden als directeur. Ze hadden het bedrijf dan overgedragen aan zoon Bastiaan en schoondochter Barbara. ten Kate is een echt familiebedrijf, want ook dochter Joachime is er werkzaam.
De commissaris van de koning in Overijssel overhandigt het officiële document dat bij het predicaat Hofleverancier hoort aan de eigenaren van ten Kate flowers & decorations. 
Tom en Suzan Hutten tekenen de officiële papieren. 
Natuurlijk was de happening versierd met prachtige arrangementen. 
De nieuwe generatie: broer en zus Bastiaan en Joachime Hutten. 
Voor alle inwoners van Deventer maakten de bloemisten deze Flowerflash, waaruit iedereen een bloem mocht plukken.

Evenementendecoratie
ten Kate, dat al 125 op dezelfde plek in Deventer, is gevestigd, behoort tot de oudste bloemisten van Deventer en heeft door de jaren heen, vooral de laatste 35 jaar, zijn vleugels gespreid over Nederland en soms daarbuiten. De klantenkring van de bloemwinkel is groot. Vooral in de, maanden oktober, november en december komen de klanten van ver buiten de regio naar de kerstwinkel. ‘De meest betoverende van heel Oost-Nederland’, aldus de bloemisten.
De andere tak van het bedrijf bevat evenementendecoratie met groen, bloem en meubilair. ‘Kleine- en grote evenementen, nationaal en internationaal: niets is te gek. Of het nu gaat om een bedrijfsopening, viering van het behalen van een prestigieus certificaat voor een stad, een herdenking of een grote (art) fair waar dan ook ter wereld. Wij weten onze opdrachtgever en diens gasten altijd weer te verrassen. Groen- en bloem maakt het totaalplaatje compleet. Wie wordt er niet vrolijk van bloemen? En bloemen geven ook troost.’
‘Het predicaat is een mooie kers op de taart’, aldus Tom. ‘Wij hopen op korte termijn ons prachtige bedrijf alsnog over te dragen aan onze zoon Bastiaan en schoondochter Barbara.’
Flowerflash voor alle inwoners
De dag na de ontvangst van het predicaat hebben de bloemisten van ten Kate in alle vroegte een groot bloemenarrangement, Flowerflash genaamd, geplaatst bij de pomp van de Deventer Koekwinkel. Iedereen mocht er een bloem uithalen om thuis op de vaas te zetten. ‘Zo konden alle Deventenaren ons feestje meevieren.’
