At the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Sedum takesimense Atlantis has been awarded the title Plant of the Year 2019.
UK Sutton Nurseries introduced the novelty at the world famous gardening show in London. Atlantis (’Nonsitnal’) is bred by American company Hortech and managed by Dutch company Plantipp.
Another new plant from Plantipp won third prize at Chelsea: Agapanthus Fireworks (’Mdb001’) bred by De Wet Plant Breeders in South Africa. This plant was introduced at Chelsea by UK mail order company Thompson & Morgan.
Digitalis x valinii ’Firbird’ became second. This new variety is bred in England and managed by UK company Plants for Europe.
A total of 20 new varieties were send in at Chelsea this year. Last year 40 new varieties were introduced. Hydrangea Runaway Bride (’Snow White’) won the title Plant of the Year 2018.
