‘International trade in the horticultural industry is not quite free’

In light of what is happening in Ukraine, it is clear that freedom is a relative term! We’ve all complained about our freedoms being restricted over the last 2 Covid years … Yeah… so that was nothing in comparison.

The international trade in growing media and in young plants is also subject to restrictions that often seem unreasonable. Some just don’t seem to make sense at all: Orchid growers in the USA can import tree-bark from Portugal, grow an Orchid plant in it and export it to Canada – but Orchid growers in Canada are unable to import the same bark from Portugal to grow their Orchids in.
